Triax Technologies and Washington Youth Soccer Champion Head Impact Monitoring

Norwalk, CT and TUKWILA, WA - January 8, 2015 Triax Technologies Inc and Washington Youth Soccer have announced a long-term partnership to track and assess head impacts among top level youth players. Findings from the large scale collection of data will be used to identify trends and potential risks to inform training protocols which will be publically shared to encourage best practices.Read More

Players from the Washington Youth Soccer Elite Player Development (EPD) program (U12-U18) will wear the Triax Technologies Smart Impact Monitors (SIM™) as they compete in the prestigious US Youth Soccer Region IV Olympic Development Program (ODP) Championships January 8–11 in Phoenix, AZ, and will continue throughout their careers with Washington Youth Soccer.

Triax SIM™ devices are worn in comfortable, unobtrusive headbands to record head impacts, and transmit data in real time from the field to a smart phone or tablet on the sideline. This cutting edge technology allows players to track up to 180 individual head impacts measuring the G–force of direct hits and jarring through linear and rotational measures.

The SIM allows coaches, trainers and parents to identify when a player has experienced a significant head impact or a series of repetitive “sub–concussive” hits that might require altering technique or removal from play for assessment.

“After my recent visit with some of the Washington players, it’s exciting to see the state EDP program taking this important step in safety,” said Abby Wambach, U.S. Women’s National Team and all-time high-goal scorer. “I encourage these players to use the Triax SIM in their training beyond this tournament, just as I am doing in my own training heading into this summer’s World Cup.”

The first device of its kind to be Hit Count® certified in all sports categories as defined by the Sports Legacy Institute, Triax SIM devices are currently being used or evaluated for use with 18 institutions and universities around the country as part of various research projects. These studies will help to better understand sports related concussions and the impact of sub–concussive hits. And now, the data from the Washington Youth Soccer players will add to the new and emerging learnings about head impacts, and will be specifically used to educate players and coaches.

“The benefits gained from this partnership will continue far beyond the tournament,” said Dale Hollingsworth, CEO and Founder of Triax Technologies. “Our goal is to improve player safety. And now, with Washington Youth Soccer, we are championing new research that will lead to safer training and more informed decision-making.”

The Washington Youth Soccer EPD players began wearing the Triax SIM devices during trainings leading into the US Youth Soccer Region IV ODP Championships, where the top players from each Western state will compete. The players will continue to wear the devices in competition throughout the event and in trainings and future competitions. In addition to providing valuable information on the players during play, the SIM data gathered from these players will also be used to evaluate trends and glean lessons to foster better understanding of head impact risk and management.

“For the last seven years, Washington Youth Soccer has been driving change in how head impacts are regarded by our nation’s youth sports communities. Now, with the new ability to accurately quantify impacts, we are able to help define where adjustments could be made to play or technique for player safety,” states Washington Youth Soccer CEO, Terry Fisher. “We are committed to providing young athletes with the safest environment possible and look forward to seeing the findings these data will provide.”

Washington Youth Soccer has been a leader in implementing proper concussion protocols and awareness, driving adoption throughout US Youth Soccer, and building support at the congressional level. This partnership with Triax Technologies is a natural extension of the organizations ongoing commitment to player safety. For more information on Triax Technologies, visit TriaxTec.com.

Regulus Announces Key Goals Under its 'Clinical Map Initiative' for 2015

LA JOLLA, Calif., Jan. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Regulus Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ: RGLS), a biopharmaceutical company leading the discovery and development of innovative medicines targeting microRNAs, today announced key goals for 2015 under its 'Clinical Map Initiative' to advance its microRNA therapeutics portfolio and biomarkers platform.

"Regulus enters 2015 with the scientific and financial strength to realize the transformative potential of microRNAs.  As such, we've set aggressive goals for the year focused on creating a clear path to value for what we believe to be our greatest opportunities," said Kleanthis G. Xanthopoulos, Ph.D., President and CEO of Regulus.  "Under our 'Clinical Map Initiative', we are focusing our near term efforts on accelerating RG-101 for HCV with a Phase II dual-track clinical development strategy, while advancing our overall therapeutics pipeline and aligning our biomarker efforts to streamline our clinical development decisions."

Key Goals Under Regulus' 'Clinical Map Initiative' for 2015

'Clinical Map' of RG-101 for HCV Defined: Dual-Track Strategy Accelerates Phase II Development; Multiple Data Read-Outs in 2015.  Following the favorable interim results reported in October 2014 from its ongoing clinical study, Regulus has accelerated development of RG-101, a wholly-owned, GalNAc-conjugated anti-miR targeting microRNA-122 ("miR-122") for the treatment of HCV.  Regulus is pursuing a Phase II dual-track development strategy (i) to investigate RG-101 in combination with oral agents to potentially shorten treatment durations, optimize clinical outcomes and potentially improve responses in certain underserved HCV patient populations; and (ii) to investigate RG-101 further as a single agent to determine whether HCV viral cures are achievable with monotherapy treatment (single or multiple doses of RG-101).  In the near term, Regulus expects to file both a Clinical Trial Application and an Investigational New Drug application for RG-101 with the goal to initiate the above described studies in Europe and the United States in the second quarter of 2015. Multiple Data Read-Outs for RG-101 in 2015.  In early February 2015, Regulus expects to report new results from part IV of its ongoing clinical study of RG-101: viral load reduction and interim safety from the 4 mg/kg dose cohort (16 total HCV patients; 14 receiving a single administration of RG-101, 2 receiving placebo), as well as extended follow up results from the 2 mg/kg cohort.  In the second quarter of 2015, Regulus expects to report full results from the ongoing study at a medical meeting. In the fourth quarter of 2015, Regulus plans to report viral load reduction and safety data from the Phase II program, as described above. 'Clinical Map' of RG-012 for Alport Syndrome Emerging; Near Term Focus on ATHENA Enrollment, Phase I Study to Initiate in 1H 2015. RG-012 is a single-stranded, chemically modified oligonucleotide that binds to and inhibits the function of microRNA-21 ("miR-21") for the treatment of renal dysfunction in Alport syndrome patients.  Alport syndrome is a life-threatening, genetic kidney disease driven by mutations in specific collagen. By inhibiting miR-21, which is highly overexpressed in animal models of Alport syndrome, RG-012 is intended to act by reducing the severity of fibrosis, which then may reduce the rate of decline of renal function in Alport syndrome patients.  Near Term Efforts Focused on ATHENA.  Regulus plans to focus its near term efforts on enrolling up to 120 Alport syndrome patients in its global ATHENA natural history of disease study, which is designed to characterize the natural decline of renal function (as measured by established renal markers) in Alport syndrome patients over time. The data from ATHENA should provide the clinical basis for the design of a Phase II proof-of-concept study to monitor the therapeutic effect of RG-012 on the decline in renal function in patients with Alport syndrome. The ATHENA study is being conducted at thirteen clinical sites worldwide, with multiple active sites in the United States, France and Germany, and additional sites anticipated to be active in Australia, Canada and other countries in Europe.  In addition to enrolling patients in ATHENA, Regulus plans to initiate a Phase I study in the first half of 2015 to evaluate the safety and tolerability of RG-012 in healthy volunteers."2015 will be an important year for the advancement of our clinical portfolio, with key data read outs on the horizon for RG-101 and other programs," said Paul Grint, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of Regulus.   "While aggressively moving forward with RG-101 this year, we also aim to expand our clinical pipeline to include opportunities in oncology and orphan diseases, such as Alport syndrome, where we believe we can build significant value for the portfolio."

microRNA Therapeutics Portfolio and Regulus microMarkersSM Goals for 2015
Advance microRNA Therapeutics Pipeline; Nominate At Least One Candidate for Clinical Development in 2015. Regulus continues to pursue several undisclosed microRNA targets, namely for oncology and orphan disease indications.  In addition to its internal research efforts, Regulus aims to advance certain programs with its strategic alliance partners, microRNA-103/107 for the treatment of metabolic diseases and microRNA-19 for oncology indications with AstraZeneca, microRNA-221 and miR-21 for hepatocellular carcinoma and miR-21 for renal fibrosis (RG-012) with Sanofi. In 2015, Regulus expects to nominate at least one additional microRNA candidate for clinical development, either independently or with a partner.
Expand Regulus microMarkersSM Work to Support 'Clinical Map' of RG-101, RG-012 and Partners' Programs. Regulus' microMarkersSM division utilizes a highly reproducible, proprietary technology platform to extract, profile, and analyze microRNAs from small volumes of different bodily fluids to differentiate disease from healthy patient samples and to identify microRNAs as potential biomarkers for disease. Regulus microMarkersSM has profiled over 3,000 clinical samples in a wide variety of disease states and has formed a research collaboration with Biogen Idec, an additional large pharmaceutical partner (undisclosed), and multiple academic research institutions.   To support the 'Clinical Map' of RG-101, Regulus microMarkersSM plans to profile serum samples from the healthy volunteers and HCV patients in the ongoing clinical study of RG-101 to identify potential microRNA signatures, which may aide in accurately predicting a patient's response to RG-101 therapy.   Regulus microMarkersSM believes that it has identified a microRNA signature in urine that may discriminate mutant mice from wild type mice early in disease progression in a kidney fibrosis model.  These findings suggest that profiling microRNAs in urine may be a useful biomarker approach to support the 'Clinical Map' of RG-012. As part of the ongoing ATHENA study, Regulus microMarkersSM plans to profile urine and blood samples from the Alport syndrome patients to potentially identify a clinically useful microRNA signature. To support its collaborators and academic research partners, Regulus microMarkersSM aims to utilize its robust technology platform to profile and analyze microRNAs in different bodily fluids including plasma, serum, whole blood, urine and cerebrospinal fluid.  As part of its ongoing collaboration with Biogen Idec, Regulus microMarkersSM will profile whole blood samples of patients treated with a Biogen Idec multiple sclerosis therapy to identify potential microRNA signatures. "Regulus aims to pursue opportunities both internally and with our strategic partners where we can apply our oligonucleotide drug discovery and development expertise to validated microRNA targets," said Neil W. Gibson, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer of Regulus.  "Specifically in 2015, our goal is to nominate at least one additional microRNA candidate for clinical development and expand our biomarkers work to support our clinical pipeline and our collaborators' programs."

Clubs to Plan for the Best Golf Holiday in Mumbai (Jason shore)

Okay, so the holidays are on your mind and Mumbai is the destination that you wish to explore this season. Thumbs up, if that is what you are looking for, if luxury hotels are where you wish to lodge then this is simply the best time for Golf vacations in India.

Luxury hotels in India have used the erstwhile royal properties most potently and have converted several of them into hotels that never cease to amaze tourists. Below are the top 3 Golf clubs that you cannot afford to miss while on Golf holidays in India:

1. Bombay Presidency Golf Club (BPGC) - Mumbai
Stay & play at the prestigious and exclusive golf club in Mumbai. The golf course at the BPGC is one of the most outstanding ones you play while on Golf vacation in Mumbai. It is one of the most exclusive members club in India with limited access to visitors.

This is one of the golf courses from the British Period that dates back to 1927 and owing to a tight layout as a result of significant trees and boundaries, high maintenance standards, water bodies and bunker placement leaving little room for error, a recent redesign, ever changing sea-breeze conditions, and real greens - it is seriously enjoyable.

The club is centrally located in Mumbai, India and has rooms with magnificent views of the golf course, and many leisure facilities like a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, and so on. It is the best destination for Golf holiday Mumbai.

2. Willingdon Sports Club (WSC) - Mumbai
A prestigious leisure and sports club setup by the British colony, WSC features an 18 holes, par 65 golf course with various crisscrossing holes in a relatively smooth, but remarkably tight layout with mature trees and dense vegetation.

Given the most famous locality in the southern part of Mumbai, in which it is sited, one as a real golfer should feel fortunate that a golf course exists here. Again, just as for most golf courses located within the city limits in India, it is imperative to avoid the weekends as far as possible and plan a round here on weekdays.

Enjoy your Golf holiday in India, and make it more memorable by visiting this Golf course.

3. Aamby Valley Golf Resort - Lonavala
Aamby Valley City is an expansive Golf resort city; about 45 minutes travel from Lonavala, a hill station, about 2 hours from Mumbai. The resort laid out in a picturesque setting and playing through valleys surrounded by huge mountains that have taken unique shapes caused by wind erosion is a great place to play golf.

Immaculately maintained, the course that hosts numerous reputed events, offers some interesting challenges, mainly, with its up and down nature, engaging with the contouring of the fairways and well thought out bunker placement.

Hotels in India have certainly come of age; gone are the days when hotels for Golf vacation in Mumbai had been merely a place to lodge and forget. Nowadays several chains have started packages that aim to provide a quality experience when a visitor has come for Golf vacations in India.

3 key factors to consider when installing all weather surfaces for sports, playground surfaces and industrial floor solutions (Michael McSweeney)

An all weather sports surface, a safe playground surface or the right industrial floor solution: luxury or necessity? Whether we are in a playground, at work in a clean room or restaurant environment, or training on a synthetic or artificial rugby pitch, we are somewhat exposed to a potential injury. Slips and trips account for up to 35% of major accidents in the food and drink industry alone (source; hse.gov.uk). It is for this reason that the right sports surface or industrial flooring system for work as much as leisure is a necessity. Here are three important factors to consider when purchasing a floor surface for industrial flooring solutions, wet rooms, and sports surfaces such as an all weather pitch or a tennis surface, presented by Marie McSweeney, Manager of Irish based Playground and Sports Surface Installation experts McSweeney Sports Surfaces and wet room and industrial floor suppliers Mcresinfloors.com

1. Foundation

What's under the surface? The surface our shoes stand upon, is the final layer of a whole system, and the finishing element of a process. Laying the right sports surface, playground surface or industrial flooring application often requires surface excavation, heavy duty clearing and preparation. Many layers may be put down in order to achieve the right balance of durability, shock absorption, grip and comfort. A typical multi layer surface that we walk on in our supermarket, warehouse or wet room environment involves just 2 - 4 mm of thickness, but let's take a quick look at what comprises this typical floor. A Viasol epoxy resin coated system as supplied by http://mcresinfloors.com will work upwards typically from concrete and include an adhesive primer. Then a levelling layer may be added before the top coat is applied. It is only then that the seal coat is applied and any finishing trim after that. So even in this simple example there are up to 5 layers beneath our feet on any typical sports surface, industrial floor or wet room floor surface.

2. Standards Adherence

If laying a tennis surface, a GAA all weather pitch or an artificial football playing surface, the governing body for that sport or discipline will have floor specifications and recommendations. Both the Lawn Tennis Association and the International Tennis Association have approved specifications for synthetic grass court and acrylic court surface installations. There are usually three forces at play for any sports surface installation: safety, durability and replication of natural surface dynamics. However, multi-sport playing surfaces can be achieved so that each sports requirements can be attained and exceeded. But this should be checked first. Usually GAA, Rugby and soccer can be catered for on the one artificial sports surface.

In a clean room or industrial floors environment it may in certain situations require attainment of recommended or approved specifications such as having a terrazzo floor rise a certain number of centimetres up the adjoining wall. In fact in many food preparation areas, the walls are now required to be of the same resin finish as the floor so maximum hygiene can be maintained.

3. Maintenance

So you've invested wisely in your new tennis surface, community playground surface and play equipment or industrial floor and it looks great. A wise decision is to include a recommended period of maintenance in your contract with your sports or industrial floor surface installation expert. They will have a supply of the correct resin and finishing materials for preventative maintenance and repair that will provide ongoing durability and aesthetic uniformity.

So in summary, any floor installation must properly account for safety, fitness for purpose, and durability. Each industry and sport's governing body will actually have an approved specification and this is in place for everyone's safety. Your professional sports surface and industrial flooring supplier will have knowledge of these requirements and be able to install accordingly and also achieve your aesthetic preferences which are of particular importance for playground surfaces, wet room floors and artificial sports surfaces.

Author Bio : Marie McSweeney set up McSweeney Sports Surfaces with her Husband Mike in 2003. Mike liked spending time at home with the kids, and saw for himself how the use of an artificial putting green was very similar to a real one, but was practical because the maintenance costs were so low by comparison. This inspired McSweeney Sports Surfaces to develop their indoor and outdoor sports and play surface product portfolio in Ireland and the UK. 2 Tricks to Driving Off the Deck (nalini tra)

Here are three tips to help your drive:

Shoulders on Line, Feet Shut

Shoulders square to the target, feet slightly shut. Not one person really speaks about this shot very much, but if it comes up at all you've probably been told, "If you're going to hit the driver off the deck you've got to hit a big swing. It's the only way to get the ball up."

Actually, that's not correct at all. If you have enough club head quickness there's no need to just hit a big cut. Of course you can hit a big cut if that's what you want to do. You can still strike it well, and high, and far, but you lose control of the ball and you lose length.

For this shot, you're trying to hit the ball dead straight. Maybe a slight cut if you want to, but you can actually work the ball both ways when striking the driver off the deck. Take your regular driver arrangement, with your feet a little bit shut. Line up your shoulders and club face square to the target line.

Keeping your feet slightly shut helps shallow out your path on the way back and through. That's important, because if you have a very steep path you're just going to heave that club head right down in the earth.

You need to sweep the ball, but you still have to hit down on it with the driver when you're hitting it off the deck.

Club Head Inside Shallows the Plane

There are a couple little tricks to make this shot functional. First is that you can see in the first photo below that the club face is dead square to his feet line. That's intentional. That's planned. Rather than focusing on getting it square to the shoulder plane or the target line, you want the club head a little bit inside.

Why would you want that? Squaring the club face to the feet line helps you come through the ball more shallow. If you take the club back very steep you're going to have to redirect it on the way back down.

Club face square to feet line (left), left forearm rotation, club face square to feet line (left), left forearm rotation (center, right). You want it to go back and through on a very comparable plane, so you want to take it back very shallow.

As you go back you're actually getting more revolution in your left forearm from off the ball, to get the club coming back behind your hands. You want that spin in your hands because it helps shallow out the path on the way back. As you keep going to the top you're still rotating the left forearm, getting the arm plane a little shallower than usual.

As you get closer to the top, even though you've rotated your left forearm pretty aggressively taking the club back, the club face is still square to your forearm.
