Biometrics Market in Europe 2014-2018: Key Vendors are 3M Cogent, Cognitec, NEC and Safran

DUBLIN, Oct. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Research and Markets has announced the addition of the "Biometrics Market in Europe 2014-2018" report to their offering.

Biometrics is a technology which helps to assess individuals on the basis of their physical or behavioral patterns. It involves the verification and identification of both physiological traits such as fingerprints, face recognition, DNA, palm print, hand geometry, and iris recognition, and behavioral traits such as keystroke patterns and speech pattern/voice recognition.

The data derived are then used for security and authentication purposes, as it is difficult to forge biometric data. Biometrics is mainly used for law enforcement, banking authentication, and providing physical access. It helps provide an extra layer of security for data access and individual identification.

The analysts forecast the Biometrics market in Europe will grow at a CAGR of 17.25 percent during the period 2013-2018.

This report covers the present scenario and the growth prospects of the Biometrics market in Europe for the period 2013-2018. To calculate the market size, the report considers revenue generated from the sales of biometrics solutions. It also presents the vendor landscape and a corresponding detailed analysis of the top four vendors in the market.

In addition, the report discusses the major drivers that influence the growth of the Biometrics market in Europe. It also outlines the challenges faced by vendors and the market at large, as well as the key trends that are emerging in the market.

Currently, the adoption rate of fingerprint identification technology in ATMs in developing regions in Europe is low. One of the primary reasons for this is the lack of awareness about ATMs and the inability to operate them. Therefore, many banks have introduced ATMs integrated with biometrics in order to make it easier for end-users to access their accounts.

In addition, ATMs integrated with biometrics do not require a communication infrastructure. Moreover, the adoption of biometrics in the BFSI sector eliminates the need for ATM cards, saving huge costs for banks. This trend is gradually catching up, and the region is expected to witness an increase in the integration of biometrics in ATMs in the future.

According to the report, the growing need for advanced security in the Government sector is one of the drivers in this market. Government departments such as intelligence, defense, finance, and military are the major users of facial recognition technology. To secure their perimeter, government departments of various countries have installed stronger security measures, including biometric security solutions. In recent years, the Government sector has been the major contributor of revenue for the market.

Further, the report states that one of the key challenges in the market is the strong competition it faces from inexpensive non-biometric technologies. The presence of low-cost alternative technologies such as swipe cards, token-based two-factor authentication, and software authentication is a major challenge affecting the growth of the Biometrics market in Europe.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.

Digitus Biometrics announces compatibility with AMAG's Symmetry

Digitus Biometrics announces compatibility with AMAG's Symmetry. (PRNewsFoto/Digitus Biometrics)jwplayer.key="2kY/GKwZ2uQZmDlQ9VYArfZt2b4+KhHX3+DM4zisgtE=";SAVANNAH, Ga., June 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Working in conjunction with AMAG, Digitus Biometrics is proud to announce that its proprietary access management software, DAS-SQL, is now compatible with AMAG's Symmetry access control and video surveillance platform.

Data center security needs are evolving just as quickly as data potential and the tools being used to harness it. Many firms have already turned to Symmetry to meet their legacy card access control needs. Digitus offers a way to take server rack security to the next level, securing racks and cabinets with the swipe of a finger and integrating with preexisting Symmetry control software.

Digitus' patent-pending solutions optimize security using biometric technology and the latest in user monitoring and management. Firms will now be able to seamlessly migrate their user accounts and data to DAS-SQL, without having to re-enroll them. All user information will be shared between databases, simplifying management and control needs. Furthermore, all monitoring and maintenance needs to the systems will be able to be performed through a single interface, updating both platforms at once.

This compatibility will provide several distinct benefits to enterprises looking to optimize their data center security needs with biometrics. In addition to being able to build on their existing investment in building access control, companies will be able to secure server cabinets with the most secure access control platform on the planet. Firms will also receive guaranteed compliance with virtually all existing government and industry regulations, while managing these elements through a single point of administration for their building and cabinet access control systems.

Streamlined control over security management solutions will help enterprises boost workflow and facility protection needs around real-world operational demands, not idealistic views on access control. This optimization of identity and access will enhance processes to meet modern expectations for efficiency and privacy.

LiveScan Service Provider Binary Biometrics First to Offer One-Stop Inter-State Background Screening Service Designed for Applicants Requiring Multiple Licenses

MELBOURNE, Fla., June 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Binary Biometrics, an FBI and Florida Department of Law Enforcement approved LiveScan service provider and a leading provider of background screenings for licensed professionals is now offering a service designed to ease the burden of compliance for applicants who require licensing and background screening in multiple states. Professionals who may benefit from the new service include, but are not limited to, money transmitters, mortgage brokers, real estate agents, healthcare workers, and financial advisors. The procedure works by scanning and then reprinting one electronic fingerprint record or a scanned original hard card record and then transmitting those reprints via registered post to the appropriate agency.

This process of scanning of the original hard card and reprinting on to additional cards employs advanced, FBI certified scanning technology to convert a traditional US fingerprint card (FD-258) into an electronic fingerprint record. This electronic scan is also known as LiveScan.

Once in the system, the company's state of the art laser printers reproduce exact copies of those same fingerprint records on as many additional hard cards as the user requests. These copies may be used by an applicant for most background screenings in other jurisdictions and for different regulatory agencies.

"This new service is particularly convenient for compliance officers, mortgage brokers, real estate agents, and any professional who needs to become licensed in multiple states and does not wish to travel to each state to complete an in person LiveScan or have to wait at a police station for every new state license or screening, get their prints rolled, and mail to each individual agency with the hopes that the records are not rejected for quality. We can save companies and compliance officers from wasting a lot of money, time, and avoid unnecessary headaches with this new process. I'm really excited to see this take off!" says James Timothy White, CEO.

Unisys Delivers New Basic Provision Biometrics Solution to Dutch Custodial Institutions Service

BLUE BELL, Pa., July 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Unisys Corporation's (NYSE: UIS) subsidiary in The Netherlands, Unisys Nederland N.V., today announced that it has been selected by the Dutch Custodial Institutions Service (DJI) to deliver, implement and manage a new Basic Provision Biometrics solution for penitentiaries across The Netherlands.

Unisys won the contract with a solution based on its open standards-based LEIDA platform for identity management software. The term of the contract is up to seven years, with the new system expected to go live at the end of 2014.

The Unisys solution replaces DJI's existing Basic Provision Biometrics, and will better integrate with the agency's new IT architecture, improve user experience, increase the speed of operation and lower its cost.

The Basic Provision Biometrics program uses biometric data such as fingerprints to verify detainees' identities during their time in custody. The program went live in 2008 so that penitentiaries, National Police, judiciary and probation services across The Netherlands could rely on technology to manage detainees' biometric data and maintain accurate records.

"Identity verification within penitentiaries should be a foolproof system," said A.L.C. Roelofs, deputy director of DJI. "To achieve this goal we are always looking for the best solutions to fit within our new information architecture."

DJI is responsible for approximately 12,000 prison cells in The Netherlands. Every year, each cell can hold four or five different occupants as detainees are moved between institutions, and as those who have served their sentences depart and new individuals arrive. The biometric data for approximately 25,000 persons is recorded in the database of the judicial service establishments every year.[1]

"Unisys brings to DJI years of global experience, gained from delivering some of the most significant biometric passport and ID schemes in the world," said Jim Vlaming, public safety and justice business lead at Unisys Nederland N.V. "In particular, our work with ITER, the international fusion project in the south of France, demonstrated that we have the technology and the knowledge to develop solutions that put people at the heart of the project."

Unisys has a record of successfully delivering biometrics solutions to reduce fraud and improve public services. These include projects with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Passports Division Section) and the Mexican Ministry of Internal Affairs and National Citizen Registry.

Global Biometrics Technology (Face, Hand geometry, Voice, Signature, Iris, AFIS, Non-AFIS and Others) Market - Forecast to 2019

DUBLIN, May 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/xt73hk/biometrics) has announced the addition of the "Biometrics Technology Market - Global Industry Analysis Size Share Growth Trends and Forecast 2013 - 2019" report to their offering.

http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20130307/600769

Biometrics helps in verifying the identity of a person based on physiological or behavioral characteristics. Specifically, traditional authentication methods such as magnetic cards, personal identification cards, passwords or keys are vulnerable to attacks and can be easily stolen. Biometrics technology identifies an individual on the basis of their fingerprints, face, signature, DNA, iris, typing rhythms etc and provides convenient and secure authentication.

With the thriving Internet-based commerce such as online banking and rising need for precise verification while accessing accounts, biometrics technology is considered to be the most convenient and simplest solution. Its permanent, measurable, universal and unique features ensure high level of information security and these are the key factors which would help to contribute to its growth by 2019.

In 2012, among all application segments, the non-AFIS segment dominated the biometrics market. This was due to its cost effectiveness and user friendliness. Additionally, non-AFIS systems are more flexible and convenient as compared to other recognition systems and require low maintenance. However, iris recognition systems have an enormous untapped market as an emergent technology with increasing adoption mostly in the areas of access control and high-end security applications.

Global Mobile Biometrics Market 2014-2018

DUBLIN, Apr. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/gc8xld/global_mobile) has announced the addition of the "Global Mobile Biometrics Market 2014-2018" report to their offering.

http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20130307/600769

The increase in mergers and acquisitions is one of the most prominent trends witnessed in the market. The Global Mobile Biometrics market is currently witnessing increasing consolidation, which is expected to continue in the future. Both existing vendors and new entrants are taking the acquisitive route to either enter the market or broaden their portfolio of offerings. For instance, Apple acquired AuthenTec for US$356 million in 2012. The acquisition helped Apple attain all its patents for biometric security in mobile devices. 3M completed the acquisition of Cogent Inc. in December 2010 for US$943 million. Cogent develops biometric recognition systems that allow government and businesses to identify individuals by their fingers, palms, faces, and irises.

According to the report, the growth of the Global Mobile Biometrics market is driven by several drivers. One such driver is the increasing use of personal devices for financial transactions. Financial institutions, these days, are encouraging the use of mobile banking and online financial transactions, thereby increasing the need for high-level security. Since the use of biometrics in mobile devices helps provide high-level security, there has been an increase in the adoption of biometrics in mobile devices.

Further, the report states that one of the key challenges in the market is the availability of inexpensive non-biometric technologies. Besides mobile biometrics, there is a high availability of solutions such as token-based two-factor authentication, password authentication, and software authentication in the market. As these solutions are relatively inexpensive and easy to operate, they are finding greater acceptance among individual consumers.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
