Face Recognition & Media Analysis in the Cloud Available to UK Law Enforcement and Other Government Agencies on GCloud Cloudstore

LONDON, May 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

Face Recognition and other detection technologies in a Government Cloud. Bulk media processing (ie body worn video) for UK Gov, Police and Intelligence.  "Software-as-a-Service" (SaaS) model ensures optimal purchasing flexibility. Now available in the UK GCloud Cloudstore. Provides an "Order of Magnitude" efficiency gain. Already proven with US Federal Agencies. Identity E2E and Allevate Limited today announced the Cloud-hosted availability of MXSERVER to improve the efficiency of police and intelligence operations in combatting organised crime, terrorist activities and civil unrest. As trained investigators can now spend a fraction of the amount of time repetitively watching significant volumes of media, they are freed to intelligently apply their skills to other tasks and demands where they are best suited.

Peter Wales from Identity E2E states "Our security services are faced with a relentless increase in digital media -- from police body worn video, online sources such as Facebook and YouTube, confiscated phones and computers and, increasingly, 'crowd-sourced' from members of the public." He continues "Until now, there has been no easy and cost-effective way to access the intelligence this media contains. Experienced and expensive human capital has been assigned the rote task of watching countless hours of video in the hope of finding useful information."

MXSERVER, from Tygart Technology, processes vast amounts of textual, video and photo collections quickly - automatically discovering, grouping and extracting segments depicting people. Using face recognition technology, this solution searches media archives to find other assets which depict individuals of interest. It also indexes the digital media to enable it to be efficiently searched using a photograph of a face, previewed and analysed via an intuitive web-based user interface. Results become available in minutes rather than hours or days because the digital media files are processed in parallel over a distributed cloud-architecture.

Allevate emphasizes that "MXSERVER delivers a Big Data solution for law-enforcement's growing video and photo assets. It provides a significantly enhanced identification capability that is quicker and more efficient than manually watching video."

Identity E2E and Allevate have chosen Skyscape, the service provider of choice for Assured Cloud Services to the UK Public Sector, to host the MXSERVER service. Accredited hosting environments up to Impact Level 3 can be made available to store and process digital media. Alternatively, clients may elect to host MXSERVER within their own secure facilities for dealing with the highly sensitive data.

From today, access to both the software and all hosting and storage services are available on the
G-Cloud v 'CloudStore' using an easy to calculate monthly service fee. The GCloud catalogue is open to all public sector clients and is designed to provide a simple streamlined process for buying ICT focused products and services as a commodity without having to invite tenders from suppliers.

To better understand how MXSERVER can help you to efficiently find actionable by exploiting the masses of raw media in your possession, contact Identity E2E on info@identityE2E.com or Allevate Limited at contact@allevate.com or watch a video on MXSERVER here: http://youtu.be/eojp27QdIxQ

Frost & Sullivan Commends NEC for Taking Facial Recognition Biometrics to the Mainstream Market

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the strong authentication market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes NEC with the 2014 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Customer Value Leadership. NEC has made the most of the demand for strong and user-friendly methods for user authentication to introduce facial recognition biometrics in mainstream commercial applications. NEC's NeoFace product offering includes NEC's core facial recognition capabilities, such as image processing, face detection, quality assessment, template encoding, and matching. It is available as either a "SDK" or "Appliance" for integration in facial recognition solutions.

The proliferation of mobile devices with front-facing cameras and powerful processors, along with organizations' open standards approach, has given a boost to the adoption of NEC's facial recognition authentication solutions. NEC has leveraged its 40 years of accrued expertise and proven facial recognition core technology to develop solutions for a number of investigation, mobility, and surveillance applications.

"NEC's NeoFace suite of products offers a high degree of irrefutability and the flexibility to be applied to a number of compelling use cases, making it ideal to address the need for strong authentication, as well as identification," said Frost & Sullivan Industry Principal Frank Dickson. "Demonstrated by NeoFace Reveal's success in identification, NEC's face-matching algorithms ensure accuracy and selectivity, regardless of database size and image quality. Additionally, the use of facial recognition biometrics removes the need for one-time password (OTP) devices that are often required for strong authentication."

NeoFace has been validated by comprehensive testing conducted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), with tests ranging from one-to-one verification to large-scale, high-volume identification matching. NEC's facial recognition technology was ranked number one in the Biometric Grand Challenge's (MBGC) "Still Face Challenge," carried out by NIST and commissioned by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in 2009.

Apart from providing a high degree of irrefutability, authentication also needs to be flexible, cost-effective and convenient. As facial recognition biometrics can be offered on almost all of the mobile devices in the market today, it saves companies the cost of supplying specialty devices such as OTP tokens. Not only does it do away with multiple steps for authentications, facial recognition is easy for administrators to implement and has high adoption rates among the users.

"Overall, with a pragmatic product roadmap, Frost & Sullivan expects NEC to make facial recognition biometrics a market reality in mainstream commercial applications for authentication and in government applications for identification," noted Dickson.

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated excellence in implementing strategies that proactively create value for its customers with a focus on improving the return on the investment that customers make in its services or products. The Customer Value Leadership Award recognizes the company's inordinate focus on enhancing the value that its customers receive, beyond simply good customer service, leading to improved customer retention and, ultimately, customer base expansion.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.

FacialNetwork.com Announces Beta Release Of "NameTag" The First Real-Time Facial Recognition App For Google Glass

NameTag - Google Glass Facial Recognition Beta App Demonstration.jwplayer.key="2kY/GKwZ2uQZmDlQ9VYArfZt2b4+KhHX3+DM4zisgtE=";DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS, Nev., Dec. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The real world is about to become a much more connected place. Utilizing some of the most accurate facial recognition software in the world, NameTag can spot a face using Google Glass' camera, send it wirelessly to a server, compare it to millions of records and in seconds return a match complete with a name, additional photos and social media profiles.

FacialNetwork.com, the developer of NameTag, is also currently creating technology to allow the scanning of profile photos from dating sites such as PlentyOfFish.com, OkCupid.com and Match.com. The technology will allow users to scan photos against the more than 450,000 entries in the National Sex Offender Registry and other criminal databases.

"I believe that this will make online dating and offline social interactions much safer and give us a far better understanding of the people around us," said NameTag's creator Kevin Alan Tussy.  "It's much easier to meet interesting new people when we can simply look at someone, see their Facebook, review their LinkedIn page or maybe even see their dating site profile. Often we were interacting with people blindly or not interacting at all. NameTag on Google Glass can change all that."

No longer will social media be limited to the screens of desktops, tablets and smartphones.  With the NameTag app running on Google Glass a user can simply glance at someone nearby and instantly see that person's name, occupation and even visit their Facebook, Instagram or Twitter profiles in real-time.

Tussy explains, "People will soon be able to login to www.NameTag.ws and choose whether or not they want their name and information displayed to others.  It's not about invading anyone's privacy; it's about connecting people that want to be connected. We will even allow users to have one profile that is seen during business hours and another that is only seen in social situations. NameTag can make the big, anonymous world we live in as friendly as a small town."

NameTag is currently available on Glass for Beta testers and expects its website and app to launch in Q1 2014 and hopes it can be officially available to Google Glass users as well.

"Making Real-Time Facial Recognition work on Glass hasn't been easy, but we did it.  Now, the question isn't if we will support Glass; it's will Google support us?" said Tussy.

Google has announced that facial recognition will not yet be supported for Glass; undoubtedly due to pressure from privacy groups but FacialNetwork.com believes that by providing applications with such vast societal benefits, Google will eventually reconsider.

"There will be many providers of augmented reality headsets and even if facial recognition is not supported by some, I'm confident that there will be solutions for such limitations. We are not publishing any information about of our financiers or investors at this time but I will say that we are involved with some very well-respected individuals and Venture Funds," said Tussy.

DigitalPersona FingerJet Recognition Engine Top Performer in Recent MINEX Testing

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Dec. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- DigitalPersona, Inc., a trusted partner for biometric identity verification solutions, today announced that the DigitalPersona® FingerJet® Recognition Engine matching elements have been certified by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the MINEX (Minutia Exchange) testing program to meet the United States Government's Personal Identity Verification (PIV) standards.  The DigitalPersona FingerJet Recognition Engine feature extractor had been certified by NIST in earlier testing. These two certifications assure that fingerprint templates obtained by the DigitalPersona FingerJet Recognition Engine are interoperable across other certified extraction and matching engines.

Ensuring interoperability of fingerprint technology components has become essential as the use of fingerprints for strong authentication and identity is more widespread.  The MINEX test confirms matching performance of standards-based (INCITS 378) fingerprint templates when tested across vendors and validates performance of fingerprint engines using tens of thousands of fingerprint images in government databases.

As of December 2013, 68 vendors have submitted fingerprint feature extraction and/or matching engines for testing.  The result of testing has confirmed that the DigitalPersona FingerJet Recognition Engine is in the top 10% of all tested engines, both for absolute performance and mean and median accuracy when interoperating with other compliant engines.

"A unique property of our engine is its use in low-cost, embedded processors without compromise in accuracy or responsiveness," said Vance Bjorn, CTO and vice president of corporate development at DigitalPersona. "This has enabled DigitalPersona's engine to be one of the most widely deployed engines for fingerprint authentication. More than 200M people rely on DigitalPersona's fingerprint technology and products in commercial authentication applications."

The MINEX results can be found here.

Global Facial Recognition Market Report, 2016: 3M Cogent, Cognitec Systems, NEC & Safran Dominate the Industry

DUBLIN, December 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/lshjw8/global_facial) has announced the addition of the "Global Facial Recognition Market Report, 2016" report to their offering.

     (Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20130307/600769 )

The analysts forecast the Global Facial Recognition market to grow at a CAGR of 24.5 percent over the period 2012-2016.

One of the drivers in this market is the growing need for high-level security in the Government sector. Government departments such as Intelligence, Defense, Finance, and Military are the major adopters and users of facial recognition technology. In recent years, the Government sector has been the major revenue contributor to the market.

The Global Facial Recognition market is witnessing an increasing number of mergers and acquisitions, and this trend is expected to continue during the forecast period. The existing vendors and new entrants are taking the acquisitive route to either enter the market or broaden their portfolio of offerings. For instance, the French defense company Safran Group completed the acquisition of biometric solution provider L-1 Identity Solutions in July 2011 for US$1.09 billion. The acquisition helped Safran become a leading player in the Global Facial Recognition market. Similarly, 3M completed the acquisition of Cogent Inc. in December 2010 for US$943 million. In addition, Google acquired Ukrainian augmented and facial recognition start-up Viewdle for approximately US$30 million in 2012.

Further, the report states that one of the major challenges in this market is the lack of accuracy in facial recognition systems. Sometimes, facial recognition systems may show errors in the identification process due to factors such as aging, plastic surgery, and the non-permanent makeup of the persons whose images are previously stored in the database.
